Day 1
Arrival at Rovaniemi and transfer to your hotel accommodation at Sodankyla. Evening dinner will be enjoyed at the hotel restaurant, where you will meet your guide and the rest of the group to discuss the week ahead. Accommodation in hotel rooms with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 2
Route: Sodankyla - Tanhua (27 miles)
We will start gently along narrow, slightly hilly tarmac roads, cycling through country villages and swamp areas. Along the way we will stop for lunch and a rest in the beautiful area of Kiurujarvi on the Lake lunch we will continue towards Beanaruoktu – a working husky farm located by the River Luiro, where we will enjoy our evening meal. Our overnight accommodation is arranged nearby. Accommodation in rooms with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 3
Route:Tanhua - Lokka (24 miles)
After breakfast we resume our tour. Following a tarmac road through magnificent wilderness,we will reach an old Lappish Village, where we will stop for a rest and a campfire lunch.We will continue on until we reach the shores of Lake Lokka, where we will stop overnight at a real working Reindeer Farm. Dinner will be served at the reindeer farm and our accommodation is arranged in cottages on the lake shores.This is an excellent area for birdwatching as there is an observation tower nearby. A boat trip or fishing can also be arranged on the lake. Accommodation in lakeside cottages with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 4
Route: Lokka - Kairiver (28 miles)
After breakfast we continue our journey.Today we will cycle along sandy forest roads with lovely hill scenery to enjoy as we go. A stop for a campfire lunch will be made at the River Vuoltisjoki. Our destination today is the Kairiver Wilderness Centre, located on the banks of the beautiful River Kairijoki.We will stay overnight in comfortable log cabins in this wilderness centre where the buildings were originally used by lumberjacks. Evening meal will be enjoyed at the restaurant serving authentic Lappish food.After dinner there will be a chance to try a sauna, a typical Finnish way of relaxing and unwinding, for those who wish.This area is renowned for the forests that surround it and is the perfect place to go mushroom or berry picking, if you still have some energy left.This is also an excellent spot to enjoy some fishing. Accommodation in traditional log wood cabins with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 5
Route: Kairiver - Savukoski (40 miles)
After breakfast we will head further east, towards the Russian border. Cycling will be partly along gravel roads and partly on tarmac roads.Today,we are heading for our overnight stop located on the River Kemijoki at the edge of a National Park. Here, in the midst of stunning fell scenery,we will stop over in the Samperi Wilderness hotel, known for its very high standards of service.We will enjoy our meal at the restaurant offering traditional hearty Lappish food.There will be opportunity to enjoy a sauna in the evening - alternatively enjoy a wilderness walk in the surrounding area. Accommodation in hotel rooms with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 6
Route: Savukoski - Pyhatunturi (40 miles)
After breakfast we will depart towards our next destination; Pyhatunturi and Lake Pyha. Our route will take us mainly along tarmac roads through a charming little village where we will stop for a lunch and rest. The day finishes on the shore of the Lake Pyha surrounded by fells - where we will be accommodated in high quality cottages in this charming holiday village on the pristine lake. Many additional activities are on offer here, including hiking and canoeing.An absolute must here is to try the traditional smoke sauna and a swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Pyha! Dinner will be enjoyed at the local restaurant. Accommodation in quality cottages with private facilities (twin share basis)
Day 7
Route: Lake Pyha - Luosto (16 miles)
After breakfast we will depart for our last day of cycling, which will take us through the stunning fell scenery of Pyha and Luosto.We will cycle mainly along tarmac roads, surrounded by forests where some trees are as old as 400 years.The area is also known for its deep ravines - and along the way we will stop at one of the major attractions of the area; the Aittakuru Amphitheatre.This unique theatre is located in the rock valley and is an unforgettable setting for many local summer events.We will continue on towards Luosto, where we will be accommodated overnight in comfortable, traditional log wood cabins. Evening meal will be enjoyed at the local, atmospheric log wood restaurant serving traditional Lappish cuisine. If you still have energy left, why not climb on top of the Luosto fell for some amazing views - followed by a relaxing sauna in your cabin! Accommodation in traditional log wood cabins with private facilities (twin share basis).
Day 8
After breakfast transfers to Rovaniemi for your flight home.
